New Vortex-Matter Size Effect Observed in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O81d

چکیده
The vortex-matter 3D to 2D phase transition is studied in micron-sized Bi2Sr2CaCu2O81d single crystals using local Hall magnetization measurements. At a given temperature, the second magnetization peak, the signature of a possible 3D–2D vortex phase transition, disappears for samples smaller than a critical length. We suggest that this critical length should be equated with the 2D vortex lattice ab-plane correlation length R2D c . The magnitude and temperature dependence of R 2D c agree well with Larkin-Ovchinnikov collective pinning theory.

STM Studies of the Electronic Structure of Vortex Cores in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O81d
We report on low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) studies of the electronic structure of vortex cores in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O81d. At the vortex core center, an enhanced density of states is observed at energies near V 67 meV. Spectroscopic imaging at these energies reveals an exponential decay of these “core states” with a decay length of 22 6 3 Å. The fourfold symmetry sometimes predict...
متن کاملLinear and Field-Independent Relation between Vortex Core State Energy and Gap in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O81d
We present a scanning tunneling spectroscopy study on quasiparticle states in vortex cores in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ. The energy of the observed vortex core states shows an approximately linear scaling with the superconducting gap in the region just outside the core. This clearly distinguishes them from conventional localized core states and is a signature of the mechanism responsible for their discre...
متن کاملA New Technique for the Calculation of Colliding Vortex Rings
The present study involves a novel computational technique, regarding simultaneous use of the pseudo particle method, Poisson integral method and a special-purpose computer originally designed for molecular dynamics simulations (MDGRAPE-3). In the present calculations, the dynamics of two colliding vortex rings have been studied using the vortex method. The present acceleration technique allows...
متن کاملForce-free current-induced reentrant melting of the vortex lattice in superconductors
When increasing a current j flowing along the vortex lines, we obtain both a gradual shift of the vortexlattice melting transition ~VLMT! to a lower magnetic field and also a rising reentrant melting line, both separating the vortex solid from the vortex-liquid phase. The upper branch of the VLMT merges with the predicted reentrant lower branch at a certain value jmerge of the force-free curren...
متن کاملCrossover from elastic to plastic vortex creep across the second magnetization peak of high-temperature superconductors
We investigated the relaxation of the irreversible magnetization of YBa2Cu3O72d , Pb2Sr2Y0.53Ca0.47Cu3O8, and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O81d single crystals with significant quenched disorder in the region of the second magnetization peak. It was found that for an applied magnetic field between the onset field and the peak field the relevant current-density dependence of the activation energy exhibits a sudde...
